Aerodynamic expectations often prove low in the pick-up market - with Alberta drivers resigning themselves to big-bodied platforms and meagre economy. With the unveiling of the 2021 F-150 Hybrid, however, Ford is redefining efficiency.ÂÂ
According to Forbes, the new F-150 has been tailored for everyday value. Its athletic body - which measures up to 250 inches in length, 80 inches in width, and 78 inches in height - is anchored by active grille shutters. These help to regulate engine performance, opening to increase air-flow when temperatures need adjusting and then seamlessly closing when an optimal level is achieved. When shut they sluice away currents from the front, greatly reducing resistance; and they perfectly complement the automatic dam (a mounted valance that further decreases friction). Additionally, the cab has been redesigned to boost efficiency through its sculpted side panels, which redirect wind and enhance responses.ÂÂ
Forbes further notes that the F-150 is crafted from military-grade aluminum - which sheds over 500 pounds from the chassis and promotes a more effective ride. Weight is decreased; performance is increased; and drivers reap the rewards. ÂÂ
