The possibilities are exciting. With the impending release of the 2018 F-150, Ford is promising diesel power - fusing its beloved pick-up with a more economical engine and improved MPG capabilities. It’s redefining the half-ton market.

As Torque News explains, however, no official specs for this diesel upgrade have been given, leaving many critics to speculate on the potential powertrain options. Ford has announced that this engine will share similarities to ones currently available in North America, and this has revved up comparisons across every social feed.

Among the most popular of these comparisons are:

The Ram 1500 - should Ford seek to compete directly with the Ram 1500, its new F-150 will have to generate (at least) 240 HP and 420 lb.-ft of torque. This will require advanced PowerStroke technology, along with EcoBoost efficiency. A V6 is expected.

The Range Rover - Ford has already built a 3.0L turbo-diesel engine for the Ranger Rover, and many suspect it will apply this to its F-150 (creating 254 HP and 443 lb.-ft of torque).

Should either of these predictions prove correct, the 2018 F-150 will yield best-in-class performance - ensuring increased economy and strong horsepower. It will transform the North American market through smart diesel driving.
