Novlan Bros Sales will now feature two new locations in Lloydminster and North Battleford

Paradise Hill, SK - Novlan Bros Sales is excited to announce the recent acquisition of two agriculture dealership locations from Moody’s Equipment LP. The current locations in both Lloydminster and North Battleford will now operate under Novlan Bros Sales ownership.

“Both Moody’s and Novlan Bros have had a long, proud heritage of leadership and excellence in the agriculture equipment industry,” said Randy and Doug Novlan, “and we look forward to continuing that legacy in North Battleford and Lloydminster.”

New Holland will remain the flagship brand in both locations. You can also expect to see short-line products to carry over, such as Bourgault, MacDon, Cub Cadet and Stihl.Â

In Loving Memory - Clem Novlan

(Posted on Jul 3, 2019 at 01:05PM )
Clem Novlan was born on May 11th, 1929 to Frank Sr. and Caroline Novlan in Paradise Hill, SK. While in grade 12, he and his brother Paul followed their father’s footsteps by purchasing Frank Sr.’s shares in Frank Novlan and Son’s, which had been formed the year Clem was born. They renamed it Novlan Bros Sales. The business now had two locations: Paradise Hill and St. Walburg and sold Massey-Harris farm equipment and Ford cars and trucks. Later Clem and Paul bought out his two older brothers’ shares and later still Clem bought Paul out.
Â
In the 1970s, Clem’s sons, Doug and Randy, joined the business. Clem loved working at the business and continued to work there into his eighties, steadily reducing his hours to see his sons take full control.Â
Â
He grew up during the 1930s when life was especially tough. While one would expect that he would talk about how difficult and hard life was during those times, which was true, he would talk about how he appreciated those days. He would talk about how everyone was equal, everyone had it hard, and everyone was in the same predicament, which brought everyone together to help each other.
Â
Then, Clem witnessed his mother’s indomitable spirit as she moved heaven and earth lobbying to get the Paradise Hill hospital built. At the age of 9 he even aided and abetted his mother’s ‘theft of lumber’ from his father when building supplies became an issue. The resulting benefit to the community imprinted deeply on him, and while success in business continued to be important to him, community building became his life’s work.Â
Â
And from his father, Clem learned how to lead. Frank Sr believed in empowering people to do their job. He believed that mistakes were inevitable, fixable, and most importantly, a learning experience. Anyone who has worked with or been associated with Clem knows that he followed his father’s approach.Â
Â
Novlan Bros has been a successful company, and he was always proud of that, but if you ever asked him about his greatest successes, he would rarely mention his business successes. He would rather talk about the successes of his employees, some who left to make a go at something greater. He would talk about community projects; like the challenges they encountered in getting sewer and water service to Paradise Hill; building arenas, the seed cleaning plant, community halls, hospitals, converting the hospital to a care home, and advocating for the community. He spoke about the values of education and investing in yourself.Â
Â
Because Clem believed in investing in his community, we ask that if you wish to honour him, please donate your time, resources, or money to a charitable cause that benefits your community.Â
Â
After experiencing a fall and complications from pneumonia that spread through his body, he passed away peacefully in Lloydminster hospital surrounded by family on Friday, June 28th, 2019. He is dearly missed. He was 90 years old.Â
Â
Clem is predeceased by his parents (Frank Sr. & Caroline Novlan), his siblings, Frank Jr., Caroline (Jonny Weinhandl), George (Marion), Victor, Margaret (Russ McCammon), Joe (Irene), Albert, and Paul (Mary). He is survived by his loving wife Beatrice, his children, Miriam, Doug (Coresa), Randy (Merena) and Janet (Graham Goldman), and grandchildren, Amy Heard, Charles Heard, Tanner (Kayla Ewell), Sammantha, Tayt, Nicole (Jim Clipperton), Brett, Mitchell, and Katie Goldman and one great grandchild, Lucas Randall Clipperton as well as numerous nieces and nephews.Â
Â
Funeral Services will be held at Paradise Hill Community Centre in Paradise Hill, SK on Thursday July 4th at 11 AM. Lunch to follow.Â

Please note that the dealership will be closed Thursday, July 4 to allow us to honor Clem's memory.

Ford Unveils the All-New Redesigned Expedition

Tags:
(Posted on Feb 9, 2017 at 03:48PM )

It’s been a 10 year wait for the next generation of Expedition, but it’s finally here, and with a whopping 40 added features and technologies.
Â
One of the biggest changes is to the actual body of the Expedition – Ford has continued the trend set by the F Series trucks and has announced that 2018 Expedition will have an aluminum body, making it much lighter than the previous version. This means that even though the new Expedition is 4 inches longer than the older version, it is almost 300 pounds lighter. Expedition is also getting a fresh new powertrain – the 3.5L Ecoboost V6 matched with the new 10-speed automatic to push out 400 hp and 480 lbs-ft of torque.
Â

Big changes can be seen to the interior of the new Expedition as well. Passenger access to the 3rd row is made simpler with second row seats that can manually tip and slide forward, even with a car seat still attached. Inside tech includes Sync 3 which is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Sync Connect means that you can download the FordPass app on your phone and remote start, lock, or locate your vehicle from anywhere. The new Expedition also features in-vehicle WiFi that can support up to 10 devices and extend up to 50 feet from the vehicle. The new Expedition also gets all of the latest and greatest safety features found on other Ford vehicles, such as blind-spot detection, cross-traffic alert, lane keeping, and adaptive cruise control.

Â
With Expedition sales increasing 74% in December and total SUV sales up 6%, it’s clear that large Sport Utility Vehicles are still in high demand in Canada. Expedition has always been a hot ticket item in Saskatchewan and Alberta, and we are confident that the 2018 version will leave the competition far behind. Be sure to contact our sales team for more information on the 2018 Expedition and to order yours.

Renovations Begin at Novlan Bros

Tags:
(Posted on Oct 27, 2016 at 09:59PM )

It seems like it was yesterday that the Novlan Bros team threw the big grand opening party celebrating the big move from Main Street East to 1st Ave and Highway 3. It's hard to believe that almost 20 years have gone by since then!! Even though our spacious new building was ahead of its time style wise in the mid 90’s, our time has now come to do some renovations to freshen it up and bring it into the 2016’s.Â

First order of business – changing out the siding on the exterior of the building. The guys at Miners Construction made quick work of removing the old (not so) white stucco siding and trim from the exterior fascia.

Once the siding was removed, work began on the interior of the building. The entire automotive and agriculture sales staff had to move out of their offices to make way for the showroom renovation. In the picture below you can see that the cubicles have been removed and the ceiling torn down, and work will soon begin to remove the flooring tile. When completed, these offices will all be reconfigured.
A temporary wall has been placed to separate the showroom renovations from the rest of the offices.
Although we tried to time these renovations during the colder seasons when things are typically a bit slower, we still understand that things are a bit more cramped than usual, both inside and out. Thank you to our amazing staff and customers for being so patient during this time. We look forward to things being back to normal soon!

Novlan Bros Sales and Drive 4 UR Community

Drive 4 UR School St Walburg Event

Novlan Bros Sales Teams Up With Ford to Support Local Schools and Non-Profits.

Fundraising for a school or non-profit community is not easy. Remember minor hockey or those extracurricular school trips? You were always facing the challenge of how to find ways to raise enough money to keep those clubs going. You would come home with ticket books or order forms, hitting up your entire social circle of friends and family and asking for donations. It definitely wasn’t easy.

Knowing the struggles communities face, Ford developed a program called Drive 4 UR School/Community. Schools or non-profits can raise extra funds by partnering up with a local Ford dealership to hold a one day test drive event. Everyone in the surrounding communities is encouraged to attend, and for every qualified test drive Ford donates $20 with an opportunity to raise up to $6000. Incredibly, Ford has raised over $20 million dollars for schools and non-profits through this program so far!

Novlan Bros Sales has teamed up with some great local schools and causes to help them raise funds to achieve some pretty incredible goals. Our first ever Drive 4 UR Community event was very close to our hearts – a group of Grade 12 students in our local Paradise Hill School had a dream to travel to Europe on an educational trip. Despite heroic fundraising efforts on their part, they were still far from their goal.

Fortunately, Ford had just announced the launch of the Drive 4 UR School/Community program, and the students jumped at the opportunity. They vigilantly got the word out to friends and family, and the community was buzzing with excitement about the opportunity to help the kids out, simply by driving a new Ford. The turnout was incredible and the fundraiser was a hit – the students raised over $5900 from test drives alone, not including the money raised by selling food and drinks. The trip to Europe had such a positive impact on their lives, and we were so happy to have been a part of that.

Novlan Bros Ford Cheque Presentation to Paradise Hill Travel Club

Since that event, Novlan Bros has branched out to other local communities to help other schools and organizations. Recently, we have teamed up with St. Walburg School and Turtleford School to help each community raise funds for new playground equipment for their children. Each community showed up strong, and Novlan Bros was able to help them raise over $6000 each!

Ford’s Drive program has had such a positive impact in our local communities, and we are thrilled for the opportunity to continue helping local kids and groups. However, we couldn’t do it without all the dedicated “test-drivers” – people in the community who contribute to the events and drive. Friday, June 19th is the Glaslyn Chamber of Commerce’s Summer Solstice party, and another great opportunity to help a neighbouring community by test driving a Ford. Check out our Facebook page for event info and updates. We hope to see you there!

If you are part of a school or non-profit and are looking for fundraising support, give us a call at the dealership at 877-344-4433 or email sales@novlanbros.com. We would love to learn more about how we can help your community or event.

What to do if you lock you keys in your vehicle.

(Posted on Jun 3, 2015 at 05:10PM )
WHAT TO DO IF YOU LOCK YOUR KEYS IN THE CAR

Â
The odds are you’ll lock your keys in the car sometime, and those odds are on the increase. The American Automobile Association reports that it gets calls from more than 4,000,000 locked-out motorists every year. That’s up from 500,000 or less just a few years ago. The culprit, according to AAA, are keyless ignition and increasingly sophisticated electronic anti-theft systems.
Â
With the harried holiday shopping season upon us, you might be even more likely to lock yourself out. Here’s what you can do to stay calm and get help on the way.
Â
DIAL 911
Safety comes first; so don’t hesitate to call 911 if you think you’re in danger. In many cases, the police can unlock the car’s door. If they can’t, they will probably call a tow truck, which will be on your tab, of course. But at least you’ll be safe.
Â
CALL FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE
Here’s when those annual auto-club fees really pay off. AAA, Allstate, and other organizations that provide roadside service can quickly get you inside, though it could take a while for them to reach you. If you don’t subscribe to such a service, you might still be in luck. Most new cars come with roadside assistance during the basic warranty period. Your owner’s manual should have the details, but of course that’s locked in the car with the keys. The number to call might be posted on a window decal. If it isn’t, you can get the details by calling a dealership. To be prepared, you should store the number in your phone or write it down on paper and keep it in your wallet or purse. What if you don’t have a new car or you don’t belong to a service such as AAA? Ask about adding roadside assistance to your auto-insurance policy. Also, some major highways are patrolled by trucks offering emergency aid. Keep an eye out for one.
Â
CALL A TOW TRUCK
If you have no free options, most towing services provide lock-out service. Call 411 for services in your area. Or text the words “tow service” and your location to GOOGL (46645). Normal text rates apply.
Â
GET A TEMPORARY KEY
A dealer might be able to make you an inexpensive key that will open the doors (but not start your car) so that you can retrieve your permanent keys. You’ll probably need your vehicle identification number (visible through the lower edge of the driver’s-side windshield) and to prove that you own the car. Of course, you’ll also need a ride to the dealership.
Â
KEEP AN EXTRA KEY HANDY
Stash a spare key in your purse, your wallet, or a well-hidden spot on the car. You can buy a small magnetic box that can hold a key and be placed on a car’s underside. Or leave a spare with someone who could rescue you.
Â
BUY A CAR WITH BENEFITS
Some cars won’t lock with the power-lock button if the key is in the ignition and a door is open. Also, many vehicles from Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury have a door-mounted keypad that lets you tap in a code to unlock the door. If you drive a vehicle with a telematics system such as GM’s OnStar, Hyundai’s Blue Link, or Mercedes-Benz’s Mbrace, you can call a toll-free number to have your car remotely unlocked. Those systems also offer free apps that let smart-phone owners unlock the doors. Check automaker websites for compatible phones and specifics.
Â
KEYLESS
If you have lost the key, things get more complicated. You’re going to need a locksmith. Expect to pay $200 and up for a replacement key. Keys for some higher-end models can cost several hundred dollars and you can buy them only through a dealer, who will need to program the remote for you. And that means an expensive trip to the dealer on a flatbed.

Self-driving cars vulnerable to cyberattack, experts warn.

(Posted on Jun 2, 2015 at 05:35PM )
Self-driving cars vulnerable to cyberattack, experts warn.

Â
Hackers pose a real danger to self-driving vehicles, US experts are warning, and carmakers and insurers are starting to factor in the risk.
Â
Expected on the road by 2020 or even sooner, driverless cars should have a wide range of cutting-edge technologies such as electronic sensors -- a group of cameras, radar, sonar and LiDAR (light detection and ranging) -- commanded remotely using software that senses road widths, identifies signs and even roadblocks.
Â
But like connected vehicles and their onboard multimedia systems, these new self-driving technology elements -- which were meant to make the cars safe and reliable, could end up leaving them vulnerable to hacker strikes, according to US security firms Mission Secure Inc (MSi) and Perrone Robotics Inc.
Â
A hacker recently boasted of having entered the electronic systems of the US jet he was traveling on, and of having changed its trajectory. He claimed he did so using the in-flight Wi-Fi system.

Â
Â
The two security companies, working with the University of Virginia and the Pentagon, have run tests that have shown they believe it is possible to hack into and disrupt the multi-sensor system.
Â
One trial was to change how the car responded when it encountered an obstacle.
Â
"One attack scenario forces the car to accelerate, rather than brake, even though the obstacle avoidance system (using LiDAR) detects an object in front of the car. Rather than slowing down, the car hits the object ... at high speed, causing damage to the car and potential threat to the life and safety of the passengers in the car under attack and in the car being struck," according to the report available on MSi's website.
Â
"If an attack were carried out successfully, automobile manufacturers have no means of quickly gathering information for forensic analysis or to rapidly deploy additional protections to cars in response to new and evolving attacks," the report warns.
Â
According to these experts, hackers penetrate the system through wireless connections.
Â
MSi and Perrone Robotics, which are working on a system to counter cyber attacks, believe the situation poses "significant challenges and risks for the automotive industry, as well as to public safety."
Â
Most of the carmakers gearing up their own autonomous car projects did not reply to update requests from AFP.
Â
- Insurance premium reviews? -
Â
But sources close to the industry say the chance of the system being hacked has been factored in throughout the manufacturing process.
Â
Internet giant Google, for example, is believed to have a team of top programmers tasked with trying to hack into the software in their own self-driving prototype car, which is expected to get on-road testing within the next few months. Google declined to comment for this story.
Â
US insurers are concerned about safety, and whether the new technologies can cut the risk of accidents happening.
Â
This could force them to rethink their contracts and to recalculate premiums.
Â
At first, premiums could rise because the price of self-driving cars will be high due to the cost of embedded technologies and repairs, insurer Nationwide told AFP.
Â
But this could be partially offset by the wider use of vehicles decked out with accident-preventing technologies.
Â
For State Farm, another US insurer, the big picture is what counts.
Â
"As connected and automated vehicle technology reduces or eliminates some risks that drivers face today, new risks are likely to emerge. We are focused on the big picture -- how can we adapt to these changes and continue to deliver value to our customers," the company said in an email to AFP.
Â
According to a source with a major US insurer, who requested anonymity, one of the key related issues down the road will be establishing boundaries, and responsiblities based on what carmakers say the car can or cannot do autonomously.
Â
Google last month announced its self-driving prototype cars were ready to leave the test track and hit public roads in California, in a big step forward for its autonomous automobile program.

Your sustainable farming partner
Since 2006, New Holland is established as the Clean Energy Leader for its active promotion and development of renewable fuels, emissions reduction systems and sustainable agricultural technology. New Holland offers the farmers of today and tomorrow the widest choice of accessible solutions that improve efficiency and productivity, whilst respecting the environment. Rooted in the belief that farmers can use technology to help them reduce their dependence on fossil fuels, the New Holland Clean Energy Leader® strategy is based on four key pillars Growing Energy, Efficient Productivity, Sustainable Farming and being a Committed Company.
www.thecleanenergyleader.com
Â
Â
Growing Energy
Â
Fields of energy
We are all familiar with growing oilseed rape and sunflowers for biodiesel, or in even simpler terms, for energy. But how about transforming sugar beet and sugarcane into bioethanol, or unlocking the energy potential inside wheat or maize to power your farm? Short rotation coppice and grasses such as miscanthus are also packed full of energy waiting to be released. How about rejuvenating sugarcane stover or even old straw bales to produce energy? New Holland is also at the forefront of research to create a methane/ hydrogen hybrid tractor, as an intermediate step until 100% hydrogen powered machines are available. Moreover, methane powered tractors produce up to 80% lower emissions than their conventional diesel counterparts. What's more, methane can be produced on the farm, derived from biomass production. New Holland’s advanced and efficient products will support you with production and handling in this virtuous, carbon neutral energy production cycle.
Â
Â
Efficient Productivity
Â
More productive farming. More efficient farming
Want to consign the age-old trade-off between environmentally friendly farming and productive agriculture to the history books? Then choose New Holland. If you are looking for tractors and harvesting products that are more productive whilst consuming less fuel, choose New Holland. If you want to reap the benefits of precision guidance which keeps your environmental credentials and productivity on track, choose New Holland. If you want productivity boosting features such as SuperSteerâ„¢ front axles, Auto Commandâ„¢ continuously variable transmissions or IntelliCruiseâ„¢ technology, choose New Holland. Or if you simply want to tread a little more lightly on the land where you farm, choose New Holland.
Â
Â
Sustainable Farming
Â
Sustainable farming. Enhanced profits
The world’s rapidly expanding population means that farmers are under intense pressure to produce more to feed an ever growing number of hungry mouths. However, if you want to continue to keep productivity rates sky-high then it is important that the environment is kept in top condition to support you. By reducing the impact of farming on the agricultural environment, you ensure that it stays healthier for longer, and your children and their children will be able to farm the same land just as efficiently. Want more? Use advanced tools to calculate the impact your farm has and find ways to reduce it.
Â
Â
Committed Company
Â
At the forefront of sustainable farming
The Clean Energy Leader® strategy influences every decision we take here at New Holland. It might be termed walking the talk or even leading by example, but what it really means is that we have put the Clean Energy Leader programme at the heart of our business, and it characterises what we do every day. From giving used parts a second lease of life, right through to reducing the environmental impact of our production, we are committed to safeguarding our planet to ensure that you can keep reaping the rewards of your hard work.

What to Test in a Test Drive

Tags:
(Posted on Jun 1, 2015 at 08:29PM )
What to Test in a Test Drive
Â
Did you take your car out for a test drive before you bought it?
How long did you take it out for?
What did you check for when you took it out?

Â
The test drive can be the deciding factor when it comes time to buy a new vehicle. It’s a decision you’ll live with for, presumably, a long time, so you’d best be sure you’re making the right one!
Â
Unfortunately, some people base their purchase on a 10-minute zip around the dealership’s neighbourhood. Seems a little quick for such a major purchase, doesn’t it?
Â
At Ford Canada, we want you to be our worst critic. We want you to be so sure that the Ford you drive off the lot is your perfect fit. That’s why we’ve prepared a test drive checklist so you’ll know exactly what to look for when you take one of our vehicles out on the road.
Â
THE LONG LOOK
Â
Before you hit the road for your test drive, take a moment to have a good look at the following things you wouldn’t notice while taking a ride.
Â
Give it a once over. Walk around the vehicle, and look at it long and hard from several angles. How does it look from the back? Are all the panels and handles perfectly aligned?
Â
Open and close. Perform some simple “does it feel right” checks. Open and close the trunk and the doors. Do they feel heavy or awkward? Sit in the front and back seats. Will the people you chauffeur around be able to get in and out with ease?
Â
Touch. When it comes to the interior, how does it look and feel? Wriggle around in the seats. Could you put up with them for a long drive? How about the steering wheel? Is the stitching perfect? Can you reach everything – shifters, stereo and heat controls – easily enough that you don’t need to take your eyes off the road?
Â
Just in case space. This might be a no-brainer, but does your potential purchase have the space you need for all your life’s situations? Can you fit your kid’s hockey equipment in the back? How about your camping gear? Is there room for the family dog?
Â
THE RIDE
Â
Before the rubber meets the road, there are some things you should keep in mind.
Â
Drive exactly what you want. If the specific model/trim package you are interested in is available, drive it. Differences in transmission, suspension and tire packages (among other things) can have a big impact on your overall impression.
Â
Choose your own adventure. If you’re familiar with the neighbourhood, drive your own route. A test drive down a regularly travelled path is always preferable.
Â
Act like an auto journalist. There are a number of specific things you should pay attention to when it comes to the actual ride:
Â
Ride quality: noise, vibrations, smoothness
Power: passing speed, sudden acceleration
Transmission: smooth shifter and clutch, automatic upshifts and downshifts
Handling: long and short turns, swerves
Braking: soft and hard braking conditions, does it stop in a straight and controlled manner?
Parking: check for blind spots, how hard it is to identify the corners when parking?
Buying a new car is a huge decision and one that shouldn’t be rushed. Take your time, don’t feel pressure from sales staff to make an instant decision, and stick to your guns if you’re not completely satisfied.
Â
Special thanks to MSN autos for providing the background for these tips. They’ve even created a handy checklist for you to print out and bring with you on your drive!
Â
Good luck!
