In 2011 drivers shared a rare grief - weeping as Ford ceased production on its much-beloved Ranger. This pick-up had served as a compact alternative to the hulking half-tons, and it proved ideal for those seeking urban adventures. It was small; it was fierce; and... it was gone.

Now, however, hope has returned to North America - because the Ranger is making its way back to the highway!

According to The Drive, Ford has just revealed its 2019 Ranger. This platform will reinvigorate the market, offering consumers an alternative to long-cabbed F-150s. Anchored by a 2.3L Ecoboost (which should generate 310 HP), it promises stellar performance - blending a 10-speed automatic transmission with four-cylinder steadiness. An electronic locking rear differential will create a balanced ride, while available AWD will pair high and low transfer technology to quickly adapt to changing environments.

What should most impress drivers, however, is the revised chassis - which now boasts extra inches in the bed. The 2019 Ranger has been extended to provide enhanced payload capabilities (exact dimensions have yet to be released). Though still tailored for the compact market, the truck will now be able to compete with the likes of Toyota's Tundra and Chevrolet's Colorado. This will ensure easier day-to-day hauling and will prove ideal for light-duty demands.
